We started with a Pelican Energy that Fedex Freight had run a forklift thru. (We're not sure how they did it, but they mananged) |

It was a large hole, big enough to insert your hand into. |

The two sides of the hole were about 1" apart. In order to flush up the sides of the hole, we inserted a screw into the indented side and gently heated the platic while pulling on the screw. |

Now that the sides of the hole are flush, we can apply the patch. It may be necessary to scuff the area with sandpaper first. Be sure to clean the area as well. You can wipe it with an alcohol swab or acetone. |

We test fit a strip to be sure it would cover and to know where to cut it to length. We cut it with a pair a scissors without much difficulty. |

Gently heat the patch. |

Peel off the backing and apply while still warm. You will probably want to wear gloves for this step. |

The very top edge has such a tight contour that it was necessary to reheat the patch to get a perfect fit. |

The complete process from start to finished patch was less than 15 minutes. That inludes the time for us to take pictures as well. |

It may not be the original factory look, but it held up to a group of kids playing on the boat all weekend. |

These patches are made with a "shape memory" compsite that enables them to be warmed and then molded to various shapes and unusual angles. When cooled, they keep the new shape and offer rigid support. Their backing is a high performance and weather-resistant adhesive that holds tight and lasts. They allow different materials and sufaces to be repaired together. Recommended heating methods include a heat gun, an MRE heater, a heating bag, or an oven. |
